Chargers Fall on Senior Day to Norwich University

NEW LONDON, NH. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped a contest on Wednesday to Norwich University by a 3-1 (L 19-25, L 14-25, W 32-30, L 25-21) final. Prior to the match the Chargers celebrated senior day honoring the careers of seniors Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.), Kaytlin Young (Goffstown, N.H.), Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) and Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.).  

Rapid Recap:

  • The Chargers took the starting two points in the first set against the Cadets ignited by Olivia Werner. Norwich University countered taking advantage and securing a 20-9 lead. A Werner and Harmon kill tried to spark a late comeback for Colby-Sawyer, but the Cadets would hang on by a 25-19 final. 
  • In the second set both teams found themselves tied at 6-6 before the Cadets stormed ahead using a 9-3 run. A Cotten kill cut the deficit to 21-12, but the Chargers would fall 25-14. 
  • The Chargers trailed early in the third set 10-4, but four-straight points highlighted by a kill and an ace by Harmon had the home team right back into the set. Back-to-back kills from Werner tied the set up at 16-16. Norwich jumped back in front and led 24-22, but the Chargers answered in the clutch with three-straight points sparked by an ace by sophomore Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.). The teams traded points until another 3-0 run finished off by Cotten gave the Chargers a 32-30 set win. 
  • The fourth set was dominated by the Cadets leading by a 23-11 margin, but the Chargers tried to comeback again with a 9-0 run led by five kills by sophomore Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fla.). The Cadets closed out the match however winning by a 25-21 final.
Stats & Figures:
  • Harmon led the attack with 15 kills and a pair of aces. Cotten was next with 11 kills followed closely by Werner with 10 of her own. 
  • Sophomore Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) led the passing effort with 41 assists. 
  • Fontes led the defensive effort with 17 digs. 

Up Next:
The Chargers will host Plymouth State University tomorrow with a 7:00 PM start time.
