Chargers Suffer 3-2 Loss Against Lasell University

NEWTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest against Lasell University on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers fall to a 2-7-2 conference record with the defeat.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers put early pressure on the Lasers backline with sophomore Jadon Baros (Colorado Springs, Colo.) firing a shot on goal in the second minute that was saved by the Lasell goalkeeper Gabrielus Bazikas. In the 13th minute, senior Callum Buchanan (Eastbourne, England) found the back of the net off the assist from first year Nick Carrabino (Fair Haven, VT.) to give Colby-Sawyer the 1-0 advantage. Lasell was able to respond a few minutes later with a goal by Daniel Faynstein to tie the match at 1-1. The Lasers continued to push their attack into the Chargers defensive third of the field but only managed to get one of their five shots on target that first year Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was able to save. The match would remain tied at 1-1 heading into halftime.
  • In the second half, Colby-Sawyer wasted no time getting three shots off in the opening two minutes of the half. Lasell answered by tallying six shots of their own, three of which came from Faynstein, but none of the shots would test Bartolon.
  • In the 84th minute, Baros rocketed a right-footed shot from outside the eighteen-yard box to put the Chargers up 2-1. About a minute later, the Lasers would notch a goal by Koki Matsuwaki to tie the match at 2-2. Faynstein would secure Lasell's victory with his second goal of the afternoon off the assist from Matsuwaki to end the match with a 3-2 final.
Stats & Figures:
  • Buchanan and Baros led the team with five shots apiece and each notched the only two goals for the Chargers. Carrabino finished the afternoon with three shots followed behind first year Brandon Mejia (West Palm Beach, Fla.) who recorded two shots.
