Chargers Home Winning Streak Snapped by Raiders 71-65

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Chargers four-game home winning-streak was snapped on Tuesday as the Raiders picked up the victory by a 71-65 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • First year Kevin Cummings kick-started the Colby-Sawyer offense scoring five straight points leading to a 10-5 advantage.
  • The lead ballooned to 19-9 as junior Terrence Harvey Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) picked off a Raider and finished on the other side.
  • A 13-2 counter run by Rivier University gave the visitors the lead by one where the advantage would stay heading into the second half.
  • The Raiders stormed out of the gate in the second half jumping ahead by 50-35 with 14:49 remaining in the game.
  • The Chargers would slowly chip away at the lead getting it down to 11 points with 4:23 remaining. A remarkable 11-0 run by the home team knotted the game at 65-65 with 58 ticks remaining on the clock.
  • After a crucial defensive stop, the Chargers fresh off a timeout drew a foul underneath the hoop putting junior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.) at the line with 21 seconds remaining. The first shot fell short and when the ball hit Kelly's hand a technical foul was called on Colby-Sawyer for too many players on the court.  The Raiders would hit the clutch free throws and escape New London with a 71-65 win.
Notes & Notables:
  • Kelly had a stellar night for the Chargers scoring eight points (2-5 FG, 4-10 FT), while controlling the defensive end with 11 rebounds and a career-high six blocks. The six blocks puts Kelly tied for third on the single-game blocks record only behind Tyler Putnam (9) at the University of New England on 1/21/2003 and Chris Gray (7) vs Plymouth State on 12/05/2000.
  • Cummings led the Chargers in scoring once again with 10 points (4-10 FG, 2-7 3-PT) to go along with six rebounds.
  • Harvey Jr. tallied nine points (4-6 FG, 1-2 3-PT) off the bench while first year Dylan Santosuosso (Pelham, N.H.) added five points (2-3 FG, 0-1 3-PT), while also being a team high plus 16 in his 17:55 on the court.
Up next:
The Chargers head to Lasell University on Saturday with a 4:00 PM tip-off in another crucial Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.
