NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's rugby team opened its 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon taking on the University of New England. The Nor'easters prevailed in the Chargers first game of the season 51-5. Senior
Sophia Zaragoza (Mount Tabor, N.J.) scored the only try of the afternoon for the Chargers in the second half. Ten student-athletes started and played their first rugby match for Colby-Sawyer.

- Early on in the first half, the Nor'easters saw three tries, two from Megan Smith and one from Salma Bezzat. The Chargers then adjusted and saw stout tackling from first-year Alexandra Perez (Claremont, N.H.). Perez had six tackles on the afternoon. The University of New England scored three more tires, as well as one conversion kick to make the score 34-0 heading into halftime.
- The second half, started as a battle, neither team giving eachother an inch. First-year Sydney Calderwood (Amesbury, Mass.) had a number of good runs. The Nor'easters struck twice early in the second half, which included one kick that sailed through the uprights. The score moved to 46-0. Colby-Sawyer bounced back with a try of their own by Zaragoza to make the score 46-5. The University of New England would score once more to make the final score 51-5
