Records: Colby-Sawyer (3-5, 1-0 GNAC), Middlebury (6-0)
Location: New London, N.H.
Rapid Recap:
- Three attacking errors by the Middlebury Panthers put the Colby-Sawyer Chargers on the scoreboard seconds before Middlebury went on an 11-point run to give them a 12-3 lead early in the first set. A service error and a bad set by the Panthers sparked up a run for the Chargers who reached seven before a Panther kill got in the way of their climb. The Chargers ended the first set with four total kills, two of which came from Freshman Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, ME).
- An aggressive attack by Junior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) earned her a kill and the first point of the second set. The Panthers went on a five-point run to take the lead until a Thornton kill made an abrupt interruption. Unbothered by the kill, Middlebury continued their stride and reached nine before the Chargers could leave two. The Chargers showed some grit and fought back as the match went point-for-point. Struggling to catch up, the Chargers dropped the second set 25-12.
- The third set started out rough for the Chargers as the Panthers came out strong and recorded a quick five points to take the lead. Senior and co-captain Riley Codman (Dublin, N.H.) earned herself a kill assisted by Senior and other co-captain Anna Allen (Los Angeles, CA). A couple of attacking errors and a bad set placed the Panthers at 10 and the Chargers stuck on two. The Chargers gave their best effort of the match in the third set but unfortunately, it just wasn't enough. The Panthers took the last set of the night 25-18 to take home the win.
