Field Hockey Suffers First Set Back Against NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team lost its first game of the season against I-89 rival New England College on Wednesday night. Graduate student Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) and junior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.) scored the two goals for the Chargers in the 4-2 defeat.

Rapid Recap
  • In the first period, the Pilgrims came out of the gate firing. They had six shots, including two on goal, that were saved by Charger goalkeeper junior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.). The Chargers struck first with a goal from Lanctot. She found the back of the net in the 13th minute. Junior Aofie Daly (Harwich, Mass.) had a shot in the final seconds of the quarter that was saved by the New England College goalkeeper.
  • New England College scored its first goal of the game in the 22nd minute to tie the game up. A little over a minute later they scored again to take the lead away from the Chargers. Silva came back a couple minutes with the equalizer. The game stayed tied at two, heading into halftime.
  • The third period was quiet. Both teams battled and NEC was the only team to get a shot on goal, which was saved by Wilkinson.
  • At the start of the fourth, Daly fired a shot on the New England College goalkeeper that was saved. The Pilgrims scored twice in a minute to put them up by two. Sophomore Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) had a shot late in the period, that was saved by the NEC goalkeeper.
