NEW LONDON, N.H.- The Colby-Sawyer women's rugby team played in a Round Robin 7s series against the Castleton Spartans. The Chargers came out victorious on two out of the three, with strong offense and defense throughout the afternoon.
RAPID RECAP:
Game 1:
- The Chargers started the afternoon strong with a 7-0 lead in the first half.
- In the second half, sophomore Bethany Ralph (Whitman, Mass.) brought the Chargers to a lead of 12-0. The Spartans battled by scoring late in the half. However, the Chargers prevailed and took the first match 12-5.
Game 2:
- The Spartans matched the Chargers' tough play and scored in the tail-end of the first half, taking their first lead of the day, 5-0.
- The Spartans maintained their lead with a score of 10-0 after halftime. Towards the end, the Chargers scored a try with no conversion, making the final score of the second match 10-0, Spartans.
Game 3:
- Freshman Carmella Richardson (West Chesterfield, N.H.) and freshman Sydney Calderwood (Amesbury, Mass.) each had a try with no conversion to set the score at 10-0, Chargers.
- Senior captain Sophia Zaragoza (Mount Tabor, N.J.) had striking defense, with several tackles throughout the day. The Spartans were unable to catch up, leaving the final score 10-0.

The Chargers head to Northfield, VT next Saturday, Oct. 9 to take on the Norwich University Cadets.
