Field Hockey Victorious in Rivier Rumble

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team picked up its fifth shut-out of the season this afternoon with junior goalkeeper Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) in the net. The Chargers defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Rivier University, 1-0 with the lone goal coming from the hands of graduate student Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.).

The Basics:

Score: Colby-Sawyer 1, Rivier University 0
Records: Colby-Sawyer (12-3, 8-1 GNAC) | Rivier University (6-7, 5-4 GNAC)
Location: New London, N.H.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Chargers offense began the first quarter firing shots towards the Rivier keeper. The first shot on frame from the Raiders came in the 11th minute and was successfully collected by Wilkinson. With less than two minutes on the clock, sophomore Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) found the fifth year who scored the first and only goal of the match and recorded her eighth goal on the season.
  • Colby-Sawyer kept its foot on the gas as the team produced six total shots with senior Chrissy Coffield (North Conway, N.H.) providing worthy through-balls in the second quarter. Junior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) and first year Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) took turns recording two shots each within the quarter.
  • Looking to extend their lead, the Chargers started the third quarter with a promising penalty corner taken by junior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.). Three back-to-back shots immediately followed the corner, unfortunately for Colby-Sawyer, none were rewarded.
  • The fourth quarter of the match remained 1-0 in favor of the Chargers. A big save by Wilkinson came late in the quarter to preserve the lead and ultimately take the game 1-0 from the Rivier Raiders.

Player Highlight:

"The team came out wanting to win, stayed confident, and played CSC field hockey. Going into our final two regular season games we are looking forward to putting everything on the line and coming out on top!" – Senior Chrissy Coffield
