Baseball Drops Doubleheader Against Juniata

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - March 8, 2020 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Juniata on Sunday afternoon on the second day of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Eagles won 5-1 and 14-4. 

Colby-Sawyer dips to 1-4 and will look to rebound on Monday with a single nine-inning game against Nebraska Wesleyan at 9:15 in Auburndale at the Lake Myrtle Complex. Juniata improves to 2-2. 

GAME ONE - Juniata 5, Colby-Sawyer 1

Juniata put the first run across in the bottom of the first when Jake Swank doubled in Larry Corle. 

A two-run homer to left by Isaac Maclay put the Eagles on top 3-0 after five innings. 

Jesse Galanti got the Chargers on the board in the top of the sixth with an infield single that scored Tommy Sasso

Juniata tacked on a couple of runs in the sixth on a Ryan McClain RBI single and a passed ball. 

Drew Harshbarger earned the win after five shutout innings with seven strikeouts. Julius Thomas earned the save with two innings of work, one unearned run and a strikeout. Noah Yeingst went the distance for Colby-Sawyer. He gave up four earned runs and struck out four. 

Corle had three hits and scored twice for the Eagles, while Dakotah Snyder went 3-for-3.

GAME TWO - Juniata 14, Colby-Sawyer 4

Colby-Sawyer took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a couple of bases loaded walks and an RBI single from Alec Burns

Juniata responded with a nine-spot in the top of the third. Roberto Barranca, Matt Inella and Jake Swank each knocked in a pair in the frame. 

The Eagles increased their lead to 10-3 with another RBI knock by Barranca. 

Maclay capped off a four-run fifth inning with his second two-run homer of the afternoon to give the Eagles a 14-3 lead. 

Colby-Sawyer added a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Ryan Cummiskey that scored Burns. 

Nevin Wood was credited with the win with two innings of relief and two strikeouts. Matt Dodd was saddled with the loss after 4.2 innings of work. Kaelen Close threw 2.1 shutout innings, gave up two hits and struck out a pair. 

Kipp paced the Eagles with three hits, two RBI and two runs. 

Burns finished a great day at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort, an RBI and a run to lead Colby-Sawyer. Sasso added a couple of hits.
