AUBURNDALE, Fla. - March 9, 2020 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team continued its trip to Florida with a single 9-inning game against Nebraska Wesleyan at the Lake Myrtle Complex Monday morning. The Prairie Wolves defeated Colby-Sawyer 12-2.
Nebraska Wesleyan improves to 6-3-1, while the Chargers dip to 1-5. Colby-Sawyer will take tomorrow off before playing D'Youville on Wednesday at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, Fla.
Colby-Sawyer plated a run in the opening half inning when
Danny McCrystal knocked in
Tim Unczur with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Prairie Wolves took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a Will Schneidewind RBI single and a wild pitch that scored Kaleb Knox.
In the bottom of the fourth, Daniel Hundley had a run-scoring single and later scored on a double steal to push the NWU lead to 4-1.
The Chargers cut the deficit in the fifth when
Tim Unczur hit a solo homerun over the left-center to make the game 4-2.
Derek Kolbush got the run back for the Prairie Wolves in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double.
NWU then erupted for seven runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach, 12-2. Kolbush knocked in two more runs with a double to center.
Jesse Galanti led Colby-Sawyer with a pair of hits to increase his batting average to .545 in four games played.
Michael Roy and
Ben Brennan each recorded their first collegiate hit.
AJ Cavossa took the loss after 4.2 innings. He allowed four earned runs and struck out five.
Kyle Evans pitched the final 2.2 innings and did not allow a run, while striking out four.
Tristen Toelle was credited with the victory with 3.1 effective innings of relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out one.
