Ed McKenna Elevated to Director of Rugby

NEW LONDON, N.H. – March 31, 2020 – Colby-Sawyer Director of Athletics Bill Foti has announced the promotion of Ed McKenna to the Director of Rugby.

McKenna was previously hired in February as the interim head coach of the women's program. Under the new title, McKenna will be the full-time head coach of the women's team, while overseeing operation of the men's club program, which includes recruiting.

"It's a privilege to be part of Colby-Sawyer, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity," said McKenna. "I look forward to leading the women's team and facilitating the growth of both the men's and women's rugby programs."

"I am very excited to elevate Ed to the Director of Rugby," said Bill Foti. "He brings a lot of knowledge, talent and enthusiasm to our department, which will translate to a great environment for our student-athletes."

McKenna joins the Chargers after spending five years as the head coach of the Montana State women's rugby club, where he led them to three consecutive 7s national championship events, two DII conference championships and to the DII round of 8 twice before the team moved up to Division I.  Additionally, while at Montana State, McKenna served as a backs coach for the Montana State men's rugby club, a faculty advisor for both men's and women's lacrosse, a writing instructor in the English department and as the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Conduct. He remains in his role as the commissioner of Rocky Mountain Collegiate Rugby's DI and DII women and D1A and DII men. In addition, McKenna is a member of USA Rugby's Division II Men's and Division I and II Women's Collegiate Competition Committees.

McKenna received a bachelor's degree from Salve Regina University and a master's degree from Montana State University, and he comes to Colby-Sawyer with exceptional knowledge on student development having worked in higher education for over ten years and completing all of his doctoral coursework toward a degree in Higher Education Administration.
