NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 4, 2020 – The Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team fell to Eastern Nazarene, 3-1, on Tuesday evening. The Lions won by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 19-25 and 25-19.
Eastern Nazarene, which earned its second 3-1 win over the Chargers this season, improves to 7-3. The Lions host Emerson on Thursday at 7 p.m. Colby-Sawyer dips to 6-4 in just its second varsity season. The Chargers will have a lengthy break before returning to action on Feb. 26 at home against Dean.
The visitors were led by a 21-kill effort from Delfy Soler (Lawrence, Mass.). Freshman Nicholas Thibeau (Spencerport, N.Y.) hit .600 to finish with 10 kills, while freshman Chris Jaskiewicz (Oakdale, Conn.) also contributed 10 kills. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) ran the offense with 48 assists and also picked up a team-high 15 digs.
Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded a team best 15 kills to go with 22 digs. Sophomore
Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.) finished with 14 kills. Sophomore
AJ Gnieski (Needham, Mass.) tallied 36 assists, 10 digs and three aces.
The first set was tied 18-18 before Eastern Nazarene finished the frame on a 7-3 run, capped by a Soler kill, to win 25-21.
The Lions doubled their lead by taking the second set 25-18 behind strong attacking. Eastern Nazarene hit .400 in the set and tallied 16 kills.
The Chargers were able to get a set back by winning the third 25-19. Colby-Sawyer held a 10-6 lead and did not relinquish the advantage for the remainder of the set. The Chargers ended the frame on a 4-0 run.
Eastern Nazarene clinched the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory. The Lions received five more kills from Soler.
