NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 28, 2020 – The Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team swept a pair of matches against Lesley Friday night. The Chargers won the first match 25-12, 25-17, 25-13 and the second 25-17, 25-25, 25-14.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 9-4. The Chargers will begin conference play at Wentworth on Wednesday. Lesley falls to 0-6. The Lynx will host King's (Pa.) for a pair of matches on Tuesday.
In the first match, Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore
Orlando Plagata's (Los Angeles, Calif.) 14 kills on .545 hitting. Junior
Nate Trevino (Boerne, Texas) added seven kills. Freshman
Giovani Dos Reis (Hillside, N.J.) posted eight aces and 11 digs. Sophomore
AJ Gnieski (Needham, Mass.) registered 32 assists and five aces.
Lesley was led by a 13-kill effort from junior AJ Genova (Groton, Conn.). Junior Armando Bahena (Boston, Mass.) finished with 12 assists and eight digs.
The Chargers hit .310 for the match, which included a .400 mark in the first set with 12 kills and two errors on 25 attempts. Colby-Sawyer also benefited from 13 aces.
In the second match, Dos Reis paced the Chargers with eight kills and 12 digs. Plagata contributed a match best 18 digs and added seven kills. Trevino also had seven kills. Junior
Andrew Kovacs (Wellesley, Mass.) hit .857 to finish with six kills on seven attempts.
Genova had another great match for the Lynx. He finished with a match best 15 kills to go with eight digs. Bahena picked up nine digs and dished out 15 assists.
Colby-Sawyer had another solid hitting match and finished at .262. The team hit .429 in the final set with 13 kills and four errors on 21 attempts.
