NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 7, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer women's rugby team earned an impressive 34-15 victory over Norwich University on Saturday afternoon.
Norwich was selected as the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) Division III preseason favorite to win the league.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-0 and will travel to Bowdoin next Saturday.
Norwich got on the scoreboard first to take a 5-0 lead after an Emma Parizo try. Colby-Sawyer senior
Jordyn Enos (Salinas, Calif.) then tied the match four minutes later with her first try of the contest. Sophomore
Julia Anhalt (Littleton, Colo.) then made the kick to put the Chargers on top 7-5.
The Cadets responded a few minutes later with another Parizo try to take a 10-7 lead.
Enos touched down in the 19th minute to give Colby-Sawyer a 12-10 lead, which the team would take into the halftime break.
Norwich opened the scoring again in the second half on a try from Molly Higgins to put the Cadets in front 15-12.
The remainder of the half belonged to the Chargers as they would score four tries, three by sophomore
Bailey Burt (South Burlington, Vt.) and one from Enos, to win by a 34-15 margin. Anhalt also added a conversion in the half.
