Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downs Suffolk, 5-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 11, 2018 – Colby-Sawyer senior Kevin Tracy (West Hartford, Conn.) scored 37 seconds into the match and the Chargers never looked back in Tuesday's 5-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Suffolk.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC. The Chargers will hit the road on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match at Emmanuel. Suffolk drops to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in conference action. The Rams return home on Saturday for a noon contest against Lasell.

Tracy's goal was set up by senior teammate Yannick Gonsalves (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) to give Colby-Sawyer an early 1-0 lead.

Colby-Sawyer added a second goal in the 23rd minute as first-year Ryan Kresco (Moultonborough, N.H.) eluded a defender leading to a breakaway chance. Kresco was able to beat the keeper for his first collegiate goal.

In the waning moments of the first half, the Chargers would push their advantage to 3-0. Sophomore Ethan Sweet (Cornish, N.H.) put home a rebound after sophomore Andrew Broening's (Budd Lake, N.J.) initial shot was saved.

Suffolk got a goal back in the first minute of the second half off the foot of sophomore Tyler Mello (Pembroke, Mass.) as he cleaned up a misplay in front of the net.

Less than four minutes later, Colby-Sawyer regained its three-goal lead. After a couple of deflections, the ball found the foot of first-year Mason Galbato (North Easton, Mass.) who calmly scored his first collegiate goal into the left side of the net.

Kresco would add his second goal of the game in 59th minute when he evaded the oncoming goalie and scored into the right side of the goal.

First-year Lucas Boetsch (Rockport, Maine) made five saves in his first collegiate action in net for the Chargers. Suffolk senior keeper David Haines (New York, N.Y.) allowed five goals and made three saves in 78 minutes of play. First-year Tom Bennett (Minnetonka, Minn.) played the final 12 minutes and made one save.
