Baseball Drops Two at UMF

FARMINGTON, Maine - April 21, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team returned to action after a week without games for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader at UMaine-Farmington Saturday afternoon. 

UMF won the first game 7-3 and the second 7-4. The two teams will play twice more tomorrow starting at noon. 

GAME ONE - UMF 7, COLBY-SAWYER 3

Colby-Sawyer jumped in front in the third inning with three runs. Joey Fenuccio singled in Austin Butler then later scored on a Drew Inglesi single. Charlie Danaher knocked in the other run with an infield single.

The Beavers responded right away with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the third. Chase Malloy doubled to left to score Jimmy Parks and then scored when Riley Chickering reached on an error. Chickering came around on a Taylor Lockhart single to tie the game at 3-3. 

UMF took the lead in the fourth on a sac fly from Malloy and an RBI single from Chickering.

The Beavers tacked on two more runs in the fifth off the bat of Riley Bartell. He plated two runs with a double to the right center gap. 

Fenuccio, Danaher, and Inglesi led the Chargers with a hit and an RBI apiece. 

Nate Pushard tossed a complete game for UMF. He scattered five hits and surrendered two earned runs. He struck out five.

Ryan Glendye was saddled with the loss after five innings. He gave up up eight hits and five earned runs. Glendye struck out four. Andrew Carbone went one inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

GAME TWO - UMF 7, COLBY-SAWYER 4

The Chargers were able to get on the scoreboard first once again when Austin Butler came in on a passed ball in the top of the first. 

The Beavers knotted the score in their first at-bat on an RBI single from Lockhart. 

UMF then scored four times on five hits in the third inning to go in front 5-1. 

Each team plated a run in the fourth to make the game 6-2 in favor of the home team. Fenuccio knocked in Brendan Thurber with a sac fly for the Chargers.

In the fifth, Dougie Avellino pulled Colby-Sawyer within three after a run-scoring single sending Tim Unczur home. UMF answered with a homerun off the bat of Chickering in the bottom of the sixth. 

Colby-Sawyer added a fourth run in the top of the seventh when Inglesi knocked in Butler, but it was not enough as UMF held on for the 7-4 victory. 

UMF's Brett Elliot went 4.2 innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs with two walks and one strikeout. Justin Rodrigue threw 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and one run and one walk.

Thurber finished 2-2 for the Chargers with two walks.

Chris Hood took the loss for Colby-Sawyer. He went 2.1 innings and gave up five runs. Andrew Carbone pitched again and threw 3.2 innings, giving up three hits and one run with three strikeouts.
