NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - March 22, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team's late rally came up short as the Chargers fell to Lesley, 7-5, at the New England Baseball Complex on Thursday evening.
The Chargers drop to 2-9 and will return to action next week. Saturday's doubleheader at Lasell has been postponed. Lesley improves to 6-4.
Sophomore
Tim Unczur led Colby-Sawyer with a 3-for-5 effort and two RBIs. Freshman
Charlie Danaher, senior
Brendan Thurber and senior
Joey Fenuccio each finished with two hits. Freshman
Noah Yeingst threw three scoreless innings of relief, while senior
Andrew Carbone pitched the final inning with two strikeouts.
The Chargers took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and third, but Lesley turned things around with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead. Brendan Fairchild had the big hit in the frame with a 3-run homer.
Lesley added three more runs in the fifth to move in front 7-3, but Colby-Sawyer tried to mount a comeback in the final innings.
Senior
Andrew Pratt knocked in Unczur in the eight inning to pull within three at 7-4.
In the ninth, the Chargers rallied with an RBI single from Unczur and a bases loaded walk by
Austin Butler that scored freshman
Brendan Barrett. With the bases loaded and one out, the Lynx called up Daniel O'Donnell to close the game and he did just that by striking out the next two Charger hitters to halt the rally and earn the save.
The Lynx used six pitchers to get the win. Nick DeGrenier was the most effective out of the pen with four innings of scoreless relief.
