NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 15, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team earned an 84-74 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Lyndon State College on Thursday evening.  

Colby-Sawyer improves to 15-8 overall and 12-5 in the NAC. The Chargers will play a regular season finale at Johnson on Saturday. Lyndon falls to 2-12 overall and 2-15 in conference play. The Hornets host New England College on Saturday.

Sophomore Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) led Colby-Sawyer with 23 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Sophomore Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) added 22 points, on 8-of-14 shooting, and seven rebounds. Junior Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) was the third Charger in double figures with 12 points. Freshman KJ Synvrit (Miami, Fla.) grabbed seven rebounds.

Lyndon was led by senior Kendrick Mills (Rutland, Vt.). He poured in a game best 24 points on 8-of-14. Freshman Ricky Shuford (Prattville, Ala.) made 7-of-10 from the floor to score 21 points in 22 minutes off the bench. Sophomore Jahleel Gabriel (Springfield, Mass.) added 12 points on 5-of-7.

The Chargers opened the game on an 8-0 run to force an early Lyndon timeout. Colby-Sawyer increased its lead to 10 (23-13) after a Dana Bean layup at the 12-minute mark. The home team held a comfortable lead throughout the half and was in front by as much as 22 points in the final minute.

Colby-Sawyer scored 20 points off of 11 Lyndon turnovers in the first half and had a 26-15 advantage in rebounding. Coffey scored 17 of his 23 points in the first 20 minutes.

The Chargers' lead ballooned to 27 midway through the second half after a tip-in from freshman Nate Trevino (Boerne, Texas). Lyndon started to slowly chip-away at the lead behind strong shooting from beyond the arc. The Hornets cut the deficit to 10 points after a Shuford layup with 1:30 left to play, but the comeback fell short as the Chargers held on for the double-digit win, 84-74.

Colby-Sawyer outscored Lyndon 42-20 in the paint and outrebounded the Hornets 48-34.
