NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 5, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team cruised to an 86-62 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over UMaine-Farmington on Friday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the NAC. The Chargers will host Thomas College tomorrow at 3 p.m. UMF drops to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the NAC. The Beavers play at New England College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) recorded his third double-double of the season with a game best 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting and 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) and junior
Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) had 15 points apiece. Freshman
Erik Olson (Dracut, Mass.) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench. Freshman
Nate Trevino (Boerne, Texas) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
UMF was led by Bill Ruby's (Gorham, Maine) 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Sophomore Riley Robinson (Dixfield, Maine) finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Former Charger Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) added seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Chargers raced out to a 10-2 advantage capped by a Bell jumper in the first 2:20 of the game and never looked back. Colby-Sawyer pushed its first half lead to 28 with just over three minutes to play in the frame, but UMF used a late run to cut the deficit to 47-31 at the break. The Chargers held a 24-8 edge in points in the paint.
Colby-Sawyer held a comfortable lead throughout the second half and cruised to the victory. The Chargers finished the game 40.9% from the floor, while UMF shot 37.5%.
The Chargers outrebounded UMF 63-34 to record the third most rebounds in a single-game in program history.
The Beavers had 17 assists on 21 made baskets.
