Women's Basketball Cruises to 78-30 Win Over Johnson

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 23, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team defeated Johnson State College, 78-40, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 13-4 overall and 8-2 in the NAC. The team heads to Maine this weekend for games at Thomas and UMaine-Farmington. Johnson drops to 2-14 overall and 1-10 in conference play. The Badgers host SUNY Canton on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Colby-Sawyer senior Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) led all players with 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Sophomore Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) finished with eight assists and six rebounds. Senior Alli Barrett (Kittery, Maine) was 4-for-5 to score 11 points. Freshman Jordyn Enos (Salinas, Calif.) scored seven points, while junior Tanisha Clark (Bridgeport, Conn.) grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.

Johnson was led by junior Mariah Ramos (Lebanon, N.H.). She scored eight points and corralled seven rebounds. Freshman forward Devin Libby (Burlington, Vt.) added seven points and six rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer led 23-10 after the first quarter behind 45.5% shooting and a 14-6 edge in rebounding. The Chargers took advantage of eight offensive boards to score nine second chance points. Robinson led all players with eight points in the frame.
 
The Chargers then held Johnson without a field goal in the second quarter to increase their lead to 34-12 at the half. The Badgers made two free throws in the stanza, while Colby-Sawyer shot just 22.7% from the floor, but made five buckets.
 
The home team erupted for 29 points in the third quarter on 62.5% from the floor and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Barrett made all three of her three-point attempts in the frame. Colby-Sawyer led 63-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Johnson struggled offensively in the final quarter and was outscored 15-7 to fall to Colby-Sawyer 78-30.
 
Colby-Sawyer won the rebounding battle 62-44 and turned 21 offensive boards into 21 points.
