NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 15, 2018 – Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) posted the program's second triple-double in 10 days with a stat line of 18 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds as the Chargers defeated Plymouth State, 65-42.
After 47 storied years of the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball program without a triple-double, the team has recorded two in its last six games. Senior
Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) had the other against UMaine-Farmington on January 5.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 11-3 and will play their fourth game in five days when they welcome Green Mountain to New London for a 5:30 p.m. North Atlantic Conference game on Tuesday. Plymouth State falls to 5-10 and will resume Little East Conference action at home on Wednesday against Southern Maine with a 5:30 p.m. tip.
Colby-Sawyer received 13 points and seven rebounds from sophomore
Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine). Robinson was the third Chargers in double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds. Freshman
Mackenzie Buzzell (Lovell, Maine) chipped in seven points.
Plymouth State was led by junior Jess Conant's (Canton, Maine) 18 points. She was 8-of-16 from the floor and added seven rebounds. Junior Cassidy Emerson (Concord, N.H.) registered eight points and a game best 11 rebounds.
The Chargers took an 8-2 lead, six minutes into the game, with two baskets each from Hamilton and Robinson. After an Emerson jumper pulled the Panthers within four, Robinson hit a layup and Hamilton drilled a trey to put Colby-Sawyer in front 13-4 with less than two minutes to go in the first. The Chargers took a 15-6 lead into the second.
Plymouth State came out the aggressors in the second frame and used a 12-3 run to take an 18-17 lead just over three minutes into the quarter. Trailing 20-19 after a Conant layup, the Chargers finished the stanza with a 10-2 run to take a 29-22 lead at halftime.
Colby-Sawyer turned up the pressure in the third quarter and outscored the Panthers 21-8, holding Plymouth State to 3-of-15 shooting. The Chargers led 50-30 after three and went on for the 65-42 final.
Each team grabbed 47 rebounds in the game. Colby-Sawyer forced 24 Panther turnovers, which resulted in 25 points.
