Women's Basketball Clips Green Mountain, 78-41

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 16, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team defeated Green Mountain College, 78-41, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) on Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer wins its seventh-straight game to improve to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the NAC. The Chargers will travel to New England College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip. Green Mountain drops to 3-10 overall and 1-8 in conference play. The Eagles will host Thomas College on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) led all players with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) added a double-double of 16 points and 12 boards. Sophomore Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) finished with eight points and 12 assists to move into 9th all-time with 265 career assists. Senior Amanda Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) reached double digits with 13 points. Sophomore Hannah Cuthbertson (Hudson, N.H.) grabbed a career-high five rebounds.

The Eagles were led by junior Mercedes Rideout (Nashville, Tenn.) She finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Freshman Riley Lane (Arlington, Vt.) made three three-pointers to score nine points. Freshman Britanny Frasier (Warrensburg, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet with eight points, 10 rebounds and five assists.  

The first quarter was tightly contested throughout and featured three ties and a pair of lead changes. After the Chargers scored the first two buckets of the game, Green Mountain responded with six consecutive points capped by a Sharena Armstrong (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) layup. The frame was then tied at 11-11 after a Rideout trey, but Colby-Sawyer finished the quarter with a 9-3 run capped by a Hamilton three-pointer with four seconds remaining to take a 20-14 lead into the second.
 
The Chargers turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and held Green Mountain to two made shots to outscore the Eagles 20-4 and take a 40-18 at the half.
 
Colby-Sawyer increased its advantage with a 22-7 margin in the third converting on 9-of-21 field goal attempts, while Green Mountain made 3-of-8.
 
Each team scored 16 points in the fourth to give Colby-Sawyer the 78-41 victory.
 
The Chargers scored 21 points off of 16 Green Mountain miscues and held a 54-32 advantage in rebounding.
