BANGOR, Maine – January 12, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell at Husson, 87-66, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) meeting of two unbeaten teams.
Husson improves to 10-2 overall and 7-0 in the NAC. The Eagles will host New England College tomorrow at 3 p.m. Colby-Sawyer drops to 8-4 overall and suffers its first NAC loss to go to 5-1. The Chargers will remain in Maine to play at Maine Maritime tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Freshman guard DJ Bussey scored a career-high 28 points for the Eagles on 10-of-12 shooting. Senior guard Raheem Anderson netted 25 points. Junior Justin Martin posted a double-double of 13 rebounds and 10 points. Freshman Justin Thompson added 14 points off the bench.
Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore center
Dana Bean's 20 points. He added seven rebounds. Freshman forward
Nate Trevino grabbed a team best 11 rebounds. Junior guard
Jourdain Bell added 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
After a couple quick baskets swapped back-and-forth between the two teams, the Eagles used a 7-0 run over the following four minutes, to give Husson a 15-8 advantage. Despite a poor shooting percentage in the first frame, the Chargers battled and were able to stay close. The Husson lead was 12 in the late going, but Bell scored five straight to bring Colby-Sawyer within seven at the break, 32-25.
The Eagles created separation early in the second half with an 18-5 run to go in front by 20 and never let Colby-Sawyer back in the game.
Husson won the glass 53-43 and shot 50% from the floor, while Colby-Sawyer made 32.1% of its shots.
