NEW LONDON, N.H. - April 29, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team swept MCLA, 9-0 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division semifinals before earning a 6-0 triumph over Thomas in the finals to claim the program's sixth straight East Division title.
The Chargers (13-10) will now play Penn State Berks (10-5) in the NAC/NEAC Crossover Championship with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Nittany Lions won their first NAC West Division title with a 6-3 victory over Penn State Abington earlier this week. Next Sunday's match will take place on Sunday, May 7 at the Tri-City Tennis Club in Latham, N.Y.
FINALS - Colby-Sawyer 6, Thomas 0
The Chargers swept doubles play to take an important 3-0 lead in the match. At the top flight, the Colby-Sawyer duo of
Gustav Jigrup and
Alex Wright defeated Ryan Chasse and Zach Disch, 8-2. The No. 2 tandem of
Dean Boodakian and
Ryan Sawyer then cruised to an 8-0 win over Kaleb Payson and Jared Waterhouse.
Cass McCann and
Andrew Peloquin combined for an 8-1 win over Ross Munn and Mark Amato at No. 3.
Boodakian was the first to finish his singles match to give Colby-Sawyer a 4-0 lead after a 6-0, 6-1 win over Payson at No. 5.
Ryan Broderick got the match clinching point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Amato at No. 6. Seconds later,
Alex Wright posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at the second flight to give Colby-Sawyer the 6-0 win.

Colby-Sawyer secured a spot in the NAC East Division Championship this afternoon with a 9-0 victory in the semifinal round over the fourth-seeded MCLA Trailblazers. The Chargers improve to 12-10, while MCLA ends its season at 4-7.
The Chargers took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles action and took all six singles matches in straight-sets to earn a spot in the final for the sixth straight season.
Ryan Sawyer and
Dean Boodakian gave Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead after an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles over Jared Freeman and Andrew Nygard. The No. 3 duo of
Andrew Peloquin and
Cass McCann then defeated Robert Gair and Jeffrey Mason, 8-2, to put the Chargers up 2-0. Colby-Sawyer's top tandem of
Alex Wright and
Gustav Jigrup made it a doubles sweep with an 8-3 triumph over Aaron Goldsmith and Robert Wabshinak.
Ryan Sawyer got the Chargers' first singles point without dropping a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Matt Burke won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

SEMIFINALS – Thomas 5, Castleton 4
Thomas made it to the NAC East Championships with a 5-4 win over Castleton in Saturday afternoon's semifinal match. The Terriers improve to 11-5 and will play Colby-Sawyer for the NAC East title. The Spartans end their season at 9-4.
Thomas was able to take two of three doubles matches before heading into singles action. The No. 2 team of Ryan Mulder and Trevor Hanna gave Castleton a 1-0 lead after an 8-6 win over Kaleb Payson and Jared Waterhouse. The Terriers responded by taking the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. Mark Amato and Ross Munn combined for an 8-3 win over Brody Wagner and Tyler Wilcox at the third flight, while Ryan Chasse and Zachary Disch edged Quentin Barthe and Seth Marcil, 9-7, at the top flight.
The match score was tied at 2-2 shortly after singles action began. Quentin Barthe pulled Castleton even with a straight sets (6-4, 6-0) victory at the second flight over Ross Munn.

Ryan Chasse put the Terriers in front 3-2 with a comeback win at the top flight. After dropping the first set 6-3 to Seth Marcil, Chasse battled back to win the second 6-3 and the third 6-2. Zachary Disch mirrored Chasse's effort with a similar come from behind win at No. 3 to give Thomas a 4-2 advantage. He dropped the first set 6-3 to Ryan Mulder but rebounded to win the next two sets 6-1 and 6-3.
The match clinching point came at the fourth spot. In the battle of Jared's, Thomas College's Jared Waterhouse edged Jared Wheeler 6-4, 7-5 to send the Terriers to the NAC title match.
Castleton won the final two points of the afternoon at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots. Trevor Hanna edged Kaleb Payson 6-1, 4-6 and 6-4 at No. 5. Brody Wagner then defeated Mark Amato at No. 6 by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 5-7 and 1-0 (10-8).Â
