WATERVILLE, Maine - February 11, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road game at Thomas, 90-77, on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers drop to 11-13 overall and 8-9 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer will conclude the regular season next Saturday at New England College. Thomas improves to 12-11 overall and 10-6 in the conference.
Freshman
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) led the Chargers with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Sophomore
Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) added 15 points, while sophomore
Nate Cook (Burlington, Conn.) chipped in 13 points in 15 minutes off the bench. Junior
Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore
Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) added 10 points apiece. Grande added five points and four rebounds.
Thomas was led by Tyheem Simon and Zach Mackinnon. Simon was 10-of-15, while Mackinnon went 9-of-15 as each player scored 23 points. Jordan Derosby contributed 17 points. Carlos Gonzalez scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 21 minutes for the double-double, while Ian King tallied 13 assists.
Thomas raced out to an early 13-0 lead. Midway through the half, Colby-Sawyer responded with four points each from
Patrick Coffey and
Dana Bean to bring their team back within nine.
Colby-Sawyer looked to leading scorer
Jourdain Bell as he finished the first half with nine points while Bean added eight of his own along with three rebounds. The Terriers held a hot hand throughout the first on 17-of-25 shooting (68%). Tyheem Simon paced the Terriers with 13 points and five rebounds while Zach Mackinnon chipped in with 12 points for a 45-31 advantage at the break.
Five minutes into the second half, the Chargers offense began to show life as
Milani Hicks knocked down a three and Bean slammed in a huge dunk to bring the score within ten. The Terriers responded as Mackinnon buried a three-pointer along with a three-point play from senior Jordan Derosby.
Timely shooting continued for the Terriers in the second half, finishing the scoring at 90-77. Thomas finished 31-for-51 (60.8%) on the field while Colby-Sawyer shot 26-for-65 (40%).
Nate Cook had a solid half for the Chargers as he scored all of his 13 points in the second.
