NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 5, 2017 – Colby-Sawyer junior
Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) was fouled and made two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to lift the Chargers to a 71-69 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Castleton on Tuesday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NAC. The Chargers travel to Lyndon on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip. Castleton dips to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the NAC. The Spartans host Maine Maritime on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) led all players with 19 points. Sophomore
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Sophomore
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) notched a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Bell finished with nine points and a team best five assists.
Tondi Mushandu (Zimbabwe) led Castleton with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. He added seven rebounds and three assists. Pavin Parrish (Rochester, Vt.) added 13 points and six rebounds. Nathaniel Kingsley (Rutland, Vt.) also reached double figures with 12 points. Jordan Nelson (Troy, N.Y.) contributed seven points, five rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.
The Chargers were trailing 67-62 with 3:50 left in the second half after Castleton's Ben Mrowka (Adelaide, Australia) hit two free throws. Colby-Sawyer clawed back from the deficit to even the score with 1:38 to play on a
Taylor Grande trey and a
Patrick Coffey layup. Parrish and Coffey exchanged layups to create another tie at 69-69 with 1:09 to play in the second half.
Both teams had a possession to take a lead, but could not connect. Castleton had the opportunity to take the final shot of regulation, but it was off-target, and
Jourdain Bell grabbed the rebound. As he turned to begin the break as time was winding down, Bell was fouled with 1.1 seconds left on the clock. Bell converted both free throws, and the Spartans' final in-bounds pass was deflected, running the clock out.
Colby-Sawyer led by as many as 12 in the first half with four minutes to play, but Castleton finished the frame on a 15-2 run to take a 37-36 lead into halftime. The Spartans made 6-of-22 three-point attempts in the first half.
The Chargers held Castleton to 19 points below their season scoring average of 88.7. Castleton only connected on 1-of-14 three-pointers in the second half allowing the Chargers to stay close.
