Grande Pours in Career-High 27 Points in Win at Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - December 9, 2017 - Senior Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team to an 85-74 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at Lyndon on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference action. The team will head to Florida for a pair of games on December 29-30 against Brooklyn and Norwich. Lyndon drops to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the NAC. The Hornets will play at Eastern Nazarene on December 30.

Grande led all players with 27 points on 7-of-14 from the floor, 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. The five three-pointers give him 136 for his career to tie for the ninth most in a career with Marc Ferlo '00. Sophomore Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) was 11-of-20 to finish with 25 points, while sophomore Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) added 16 points (8-8 FT) and nine rebounds.

The Hornets saw four players reach double digit scoring led by Darnay Gray's 20 points. Zach Knowlton was next with 14 points. Kevin Love had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Darren Williams added 10 points off the bench.

Trailing by 16, 50-34, in the opening moments of the second half, Colby-Sawyer had to slowly chip away at the deficit to finally pull even at 60-60 after a Coffey layup with less than 10 minutes to play. A minute later, the comeback was complete when a layup from Dana Bean and a trey from Taylor Grande gave Colby-Sawyer a 65-60 lead. The Chargers did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game and made their free throws down the stretch to secure the 85-74 victory.

The Chargers did a great job of turning hard work on defense to easy offense which resulted in 29 points off of 26 Lyndon miscues.

Lyndon made two more buckets than Colby-Sawyer, but the Chargers held a wide margin in free throws making 22-of-27 to Lyndon's 6-of-14.
