POULTNEY, Vt. - December 2, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team led from the opening tip en route to a 73-33 victory at Green Mountain in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the NAC. The Chargers will host Castleton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Green Mountain drops to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.Â
Sophomore
Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) led 11 Chargers in scoring with 21 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. She added six rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) finished with 13 points and nine assists. Freshmen
Jordyn Enos (Salinas, Calif.) and
Joslin Wainwright (Plainfield, N.H.) had five points apiece, while sophomore
Lexi Putzlocker (Litchfield, N.H.) added four points and four rebounds. Junior
Tanisha Clark (Bridgeport, Conn.) contributed four points and five boards.Â
Senior
Alli Barrett (Kittery, Maine) began the game with a three-pointer just 15 seconds in and the Chargers never looked back. Colby-Sawyer held a 29-7 lead after the first quarter after shooting 55% from the floor and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Barrett finished with nine points on 3-of-3 from long range.Â
The Chargers outscored Green Mountain 17-9 in the second quarter and allowed just three made field goals for the Eagles.Â
Colby-Sawyer added to its lead in the third and fourth quarters and finished the game with 42.9% shooting from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc (7-14). The Chargers defense, which is annually one of the best in the nation, held the Eagles to 22% shooting.Â
