JOHNSON, Vt. - October 8, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team earned a 4-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at Johnson on Sunday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the NAC. The team will resume action at home on Saturday against Green Mountain. Johnson falls to 6-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
The Chargers opened the scoring in the 17th minute when a cross from the left wing went to a Johnson defender, who attempted to clear but inadvertently put the ball in his net for the own goal.
Colby-Sawyer doubled the lead ten minutes later when a corner kick was deflected off a Johnson player in the box and went to junior
Yannick Gonsalves (Oak Bluffs, Mass.), who headed it into the open net for the 2-0 lead.
The Chargers put another on the board in the 36th minute when freshman
Ahamad Raji (Lagos, Nigeria) came down the right side and fed a pass to senior
Mohamed Jafar (Burlington, Vt.), who fired the point-blank shot into the right side, giving Colby-Sawyer a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
The visitors added another goal in the second half off the foot of junior
Noah Camelo (Marblehead, Mass.).
Junior
Shane Sacks (Huntington Station, N.Y.) earned the clean sheet for Colby-Sawyer with one save. Gerrit Lane had 13 saves in the loss.
The Chargers outshot Johnson 39-4 and had a 16-1 margin in corner kicks.
