LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - October 7, 2017 -  The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team defeated Lyndon, 4-1, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon. 

The Chargers improve to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in NAC play and will play at Johnson tomorrow. The Hornets fall to 5-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the NAC.

Both teams had scoring opportunities in the first half.  Lyndon's Joshua Thibault's (Glover, Vt.) header was denied by Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Shane Sacks (Huntington Station, N.Y.) in the 19th minute.  Hornet keeper Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.) then turned away the Chargers' Noah Camelo (Marblehead, Mass.) in the 31st minute and Matt Schiller's (Slingerlands, N.Y.) header in the 37th minute.

Camelo finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the 40th minute when he found the back of the net for his third goal of the season off of an assist from Eddie Garcia (Damascus, Md.). The half ended with the Chargers holding a 1-0 lead, as they held an 11-4 advantage in shots.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Colby-Sawyer extended their advantage to 2-0. Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) picked up his eighth goal of the season, with an assist from Anthony Romeo (Albany, N.Y.).

In the 57th minute, Lyndon's Eric Remick (Danville, Vt.) had a scoring opportunity from in front of the goal and was fouled in the box. The Hornets' Abukar Hassan (Kenya) converted the penalty kick for his fourth goal of the campaign, and the Hornets looked to be right back in things with the deficit narrowed to 2-1.

Colby-Sawyer responded by stepping up the pressure on the Lyndon goal. The Chargers offensive flurry was mounting as the team hit a crossbar and a post before breaking through in the 75th minute. Schiller was able to convert off of a Sykes corner kick to make the score 3-1 with less than 15 minutes to play.

Colby-Sawyer put the game away in the 85th minute on a goal by Alexi Taliadouros (Winchester, Mass.). Ryan Player (Fort Fairfield, Maine) was credited with the assist.

The Chargers dominated play in the second half, owning a 26-2 shot advantage. For the game, Colby-Sawyer outshot Lyndon, 37-6. LaClair made nine saves for the Hornets, while Sacks was only called upon to make one stop for the Chargers.
