Men's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day with 1-0 Win over UMF

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 22, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team earned a 1-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over UMaine-Farmington on Sunday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 10-5 overall and 8-1 in the NAC. The Chargers secure the second seed and a bye in next week's NAC Tournament. UMaine-Farmington ends its season at 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

Prior to the match, the Colby-Sawyer seniors were honored for their hard work and dedication to the men's soccer program. The seniors include Sean Babinski (Concord, Calif.), Mohamed Jafar (Burlington, Vt.), Zach Elmore (Berlin, Vt.), Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.), Eddie Garcia (Damascus, Md.), Nitesh Lama (Kathmandu, Nepal), Jake Sykes (Laconia, N.H.), Kyle Millington (Fairfield, Conn.) and Sattar Amiri (Stonington, Conn.).

The lone goal of the match came in the 23rd minute on a nifty play from a pair of Colby-Sawyer seniors. Denali Sexton sent a cross from the left side to the far post where Zach Elmore was waiting. Elmore used his left foot to sneak the ball by the UMF keeper for his first goal of the season and the game-winner.

Sean Babinski got the start in goal before being replaced by junior Shane Sacks (Huntington Station, N.Y.) who made two saves for the combined shutout. UMF senior goalie Matt Wilson (Hamden, Conn.) made four saves in the loss.

The Chargers held a 17-5 margin in shots and a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks. Colby-Sawyer ranks 2nd in the nation in corner kicks per game.
