NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 14, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's swimming and diving team split with Franklin Pierce and Saint Joseph's of Maine in Saturday's season opening meet held at the Knight Natatorium.

The Chargers fell to the Division II Ravens of Franklin Pierce, 131-105, but defeated Saint Joseph's 145-106 to earn head coach
Connie Kohrs Jr. his first victory in his Colby-Sawyer debut.
In the day's opening race, the Chargers finished a close second to the Ravens in the 200 medley relay but earned points over Saint Joseph's.
Makenzie Welch (Torrington, Conn.),
Jocelyn Biedrzycki (Merrimack, N.H.),
Jinnae Jang (Fall River, Mass.) and
Samantha Eaton (Saco, Maine) combined for 2:03.91 just 1.18 behind Franklin Pierce.
Jang and Welch were the top two finishers in the 100 backstroke and 200 IM. Jang picked up both victories with times of 1:04.12 in the backstroke and 2:27.91 in the IM. Welch was close behind at 1:05.62 and 2:28.83, respectively.
Meagan Thomsen (Gorham, Maine) came away with second place in the 50 backstroke with a time of 32.28.
Grace Herde (Kent, Conn.) placed second in the 50 freestyle in 28.50.
The afternoon ended with a strong second place finish to Franklin Pierce in the 200 free relay. Welch, Jang, Thomsen and Eaton posted a time of 1:52.04 to beat the third place Monks by more than three seconds.
Colby-Sawyer will return to the pool next Saturday at Keene State.
