CASTINE, Maine – January 27, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team cruised to an 83-56 victory at Maine Maritime Academy on Friday evening in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-10 overall and 5-6 in the NAC. The Chargers will stay in Maine to play at Husson on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Mariners fall to 3-15 overall and 0-11 in the NAC. Maine Maritime hosts New England College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Jourdain Bell led the Chargers with 23 points, six assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block.
Milani Hicks ended the evening with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Patrick Coffey added 12 points, five rebounds and an assist.
Nate Cook chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals and
Dana Bean rounded out the Colby-Sawyer players in double-digits with 10 points, seven rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Tyler Thayer led all players with a season-high 25 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal, while Dylan Price and Brendan Newcomb added seven points each. Nick Judge pulled down a team-high six rebounds, to go with two points and a steal.
Maine Maritime opened up the game with a 5-0 lead, following a jumper from Judge and a three-pointer by Thayer but the Chargers fought back, taking an 11-8 lead after a three-point basket from
Taylor Grande at 13:23.
Colby-Sawyer built as much as an 18-point lead with 2:16 to go in the half, but the Mariners used a 6-1 run to close the gap to 41-28 entering the intermission. Thayer led the Mariners with 16 points in the first half and Hicks led the Chargers with 13 points.
The Chargers continued to build their lead early in the second half and cruised to the victory to earn the season sweep over Maine Maritime.
