NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 3, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer men's cross country team began the 2016 season by winning Saturday's Roger Williams Invitational.

In a race that featured 11 institutions, the Chargers recorded 51 points to finish 25 clear of the second place team.
The Chargers had three runners finish in the top-10 to help secure the victory at Colt State Park.
Senior captain
Brandon Legendre (Waterford, Vt.) led the Colby-Sawyer pack in seventh place at 16:42.43. Senior
Scott Shaw (Norfolk, Conn.) nearly crossed the finish at the same time as Legendre to finish in eighth place at 16:42.76. In his collegiate debut, freshman
Peter Bakker (Barkhamsted, Conn.) placed ninth in 16:59.31.
Freshman
Benjamin Jones (Enfield, N.H.) had a strong first college race and was the fourth Charger to finish. He placed 13th in 17:27.26.
Junior
Kody Frye (Keene, N.H.) finished two seconds behind Jones in 14th at 17:29.35.
Freshmen
Liam Fleming (Orford, N.H.) and
Justin Whittaker (Bridgewater Corners, Vt.) also turned in strong performances in their first collegiate race. Fleming placed 17th in 17:38.30, while Whittaker finished 19th in 17:43.51.
