HENNIKER, N.H. – February 16, 2016 - Colby-Sawyer College's
Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) scored a team-high 31 points on 11-for-21 shooting lifting the Chargers past the New England College Pilgrims 96-83 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball action Tuesday night.
With the win the Chargers improve to 17-6 on the season and 13-4 in the NAC. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 7-17 overall and 4-13 in NAC play.
CHARGER LEADERS In addition to Majong, the Chargers were led by Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) who finished with 19 points and Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) who recorded a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) was impressive finishing the game with seven assists.PILGRIM LEADERS Leading the way for the Pilgrims was Dezron Wilson who put in a game-high 42 points, including a school record nine three-pointers. In addition to Wilson's 42 points he pulled down seven rebounds and dished out five assists. NEC's Frantzy Georges was the only other Pilgrim in double-figures finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds.
FINAL COMPARISONS The Pilgrims jumped out to the early 10 point lead up 17-7 just five minutes into the game. The Chargers would answer quickly with a 13-2 run to knot the game at 19-19 with 12 minutes left in the first. The two teams battled through an opening half that featured 13 lead changes and seven ties.
Colby-Sawyer took control of the offense early in the second half of play. The Chargers trailed in the opening minute but regained the lead and never looked back. Colby-Sawyer finished the game shooting 47% from the field and an impressive 53% from three-point range in the second half.
The Chargers ended the game with the 41-34 advantage in rebounds and caused 17 Pilgrim turnovers.
WHAT'S NEXT The two teams will meet again on Saturday, Feb. 20 when they meet in New London for both teams' final regular season game.
