Wol Majong Sets Single-Game Steals Record in 74-41 Win over UMF

NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 12, 2016 – Colby-Sawyer senior Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) set a program record with eight steals in Friday's 74-41 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over UMaine-Farmington.  

Colby-Sawyer improves to 15-6 overall and 11-4 in the NAC. The Chargers host Thomas on Saturday at 1 p.m. UMF falls to 3-19 overall and 3-12. The Beavers travel to New England College tomorrow for a 1 p.m. tip.

Majong had three thefts in the first half and five in the second to set a new single-game standard. With the eight steals, he also moved into 10th in all-time steals with 146. Senior Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) led all players with 20 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. He moved into seventh in career rebounds with 614. Freshman Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) added 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) chipped in 13 points in 21 minutes off the bench.

UMF was led by Anfernee Dent (Jackson, Miss.). He scored 15 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Ryan Rice (Belfast, Maine) and Nick Hilton (Wilton, Maine) each scored seven points. Hilton matched a team-high with six rebounds and led the team with three steals.

Sophomore Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) hit a trey to open the scoring for the Chargers and the team never looked back. The Chargers defense held UMF to one field goal in the first 6:46 of the game before Dent made two straight buckets for the Beavers.

The Chargers pushed the lead to 21 late in the first after a pair of free throws from Majong, but UMF scored the final five points of the frame to trail 38-22 at the half.

Colby-Sawyer slowly increased its lead in the second half and scored 26 of the teams 36 points in the paint en route to the 74-41 victory.

Colby-Sawyer held a 46-34 advantage on the glass and forced 27 UMF miscues.
