JOHNSON, Vt. - February 10, 2016 - Senior
Peter Donato turned in one of the most impressive offensive efforts in program history by making 15 of 17 shot attempts to finish with a career best 38 points in Wednesday's 92-83 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at Johnson State.
The 38 point-effort ties for the eighth most points in a game in program history. The 15 made baskets is ninth most in a game and he added 12 rebounds in the win. Donato was 8-of-9 in the first half for 20 points and continued his dominance in the paint in the second half going 7-of-8.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 14-6 overall and 10-4 in the NAC. The Chargers will host UMaine-Farmington on Friday night and Thomas on Saturday afternoon. Johnson State has its three game win streak snapped to drop to 8-14 overall and 8-7 in the conference.
Wol Majong and
Milani Hicks recorded 18 and 15 points for the Chargers, respectively. Majong was 10-for-13 from the free throw line, while Hicks finished 6-for-8 from the floor. Sophomore guard
Taylor Grande pulled down nine boards on the night.
Johnson State was led by senior Rahim Bunch. He finished 10-of-18 for a team-high of 23 points. Senior guard Asim Khan contributed 18 points while sophomore Demetrius Slade grabbed 10 rebounds for the Badgers in the losing effort.
Khan opened the game with a layup, but Colby-Sawyer would go in front 20-9 13 minutes into the half. The Badgers battled back in the middle of the opening stanza, going on a 20-11 run to bring the game within one point at 30-29. Two Bunch lay-ups and a jumper from sophomore Rasul Jackson put the Badgers up by five, which would prove to be their largest lead of the game. The Badgers quickly lost their lead as the Chargers picked-up momentum and ended the half ahead 48-40.
Colby-Sawyer came back after the break ready to win. The Chargers went up by as many as 15 with eight minutes left to play. The Badgers closed the gap to six twice, but were unable to overcome the Chargers offense. The Chargers ended the game with a pair of free throws from the charity stripe to seal their 92-83 win.
