Men's Basketball Falls to Husson, 86-70

NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 9, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell to Husson University, 86-70, in a rematch of last year's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title game.

Husson improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Eagles will travel to New England College for a 1 p.m. tomorrow. Colby-Sawyer drops to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NAC. The Chargers will host Maine Maritime on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Senior Raheem Anderson (Miramar, Fla.) scored a game best 29 points for the Eagles. He added six assists, six steals and five rebounds. Junior guard Mitch Worcester (Washburn, Maine) contributed 15 points on 5-of-12 from deep. Senior Eli Itkin (Pawtucket, R.I.) added 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore Jourdain Bell's (Manchester, N.H.) 17 points. Sophomore Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) was 6-of-11 for 15 points. Freshman Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) recorded his second double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) added 12 points off the bench.

The Chargers raced out to an 18-8 lead in the first five minutes behind 12 points from Bell. Husson battled back to eventually take a 19-18 lead with 12:29 remaining after an Anderson trey. Minutes later, Anderson knocked down another three to give Husson its largest lead of the half at 40-28. The Chargers pulled within seven with less than two minutes to go after a Hicks three-pointer, but Anderson closed the half with his fourth trey to give Husson a 48-38 lead at the break.

Colby-Sawyer scored the first five points of the second half to cut the deficit to 48-43, but Husson responded despite below average shooting. The Eagles won the boards 47-40 and turned 20 offensive rebounds into 21 second chance points to secure the 86-70 victory.

The Eagles made 31 baskets for the game with 15 of them coming from behind the arc.
