Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jourdain Bell Nets Game-Winner in Final Seconds to Lift Men's Basketball Past Lyndon, 81-79

NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 3, 2016 – Sophomore Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) scored the game-winning bucket with three seconds left to play to help the Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team defeat Lyndon, 81-79, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer events its record to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. The Chargers will host Husson on Friday in a rematch of last year's NAC Championship. Lyndon dips to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action. The Hornets return to the court on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. home game against Green Mountain.

Bell and sophomore Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) led six Chargers in double figures with 16 points apiece. Bell added five assists and five rebounds, while Hicks made 8-of-11 free throws and pulled down eight boards. Sophomore Nate Cook (Burlington, Conn.) and freshman Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) each had a double-double. Cook finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Bean had 11 points and 10 boards. Freshman Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) and junior Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.)  also reached double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Lyndon was led by a 23-point effort from junior guard Charles Correa (Prospect Heights, R.I.). He was 8-of-15 from the floor, which included 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. Junior Xavier Colbert (Manassas, Va.) scored 19 and grabbed a team best eight rebounds, while junior Raymond Monroe (Cranston, R.I.) added 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

After the Hornets tied the game at 79-79 on a layup by Xavier Colbert with 30 seconds left in the game, the Chargers called a timeout to set up a final play. The game clock and shot clock were .4 seconds apart and Colby-Sawyer looked to hold it for a final shot. The other four Chargers cleared out for Bell as he drove the lane with the clock winding down. He backed his defender down, pivoted and made the layup. The Hornets tried to get up a desperation three at the buzzer, but the try was thwarted by a Milani Hicks block.

Colby-Sawyer scored the game's first seven points, but Lyndon used a 15-1 run to take a 15-8 lead after a three from Raymond Monroe. The Chargers knotted the game at 21-21 midway through the half when Patrick Coffey connected on a trey.
Colbert scored four points to spark a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to push the visitors in front 31-23 with 6:12 remaining in the frame. Colby-Sawyer brought the deficit within a bucket late in the stanza after a Jourdain Bell three-pointer, but Lyndon took a 41-37 lead into the break.

Lyndon shot 50% from beyond the arc in the first, while Colby-Sawyer won the battle of the boards 25-17.

The Chargers came out of the locker room with more pace and defensive intensity. After a three-pointer from Monroe opened the half to put Lyndon in front 44-37, Colby-Sawyer exploded for a 23-2 run to take a 60-46 lead with less than 13 minutes to play. The Hornets chipped away, eventually erasing the deficit to tie the game with 30 seconds left.

Each team made 26 buckets, but Lyndon made half of those from beyond the arc. Colby-Sawyer was able to make up the difference by hitting 24 free throws in the game.
