Peter Donato Reaches 1000 Career Points in 76-45 Win over Castleton

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 14, 2016 – Colby-Sawyer men's basketball senior Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) became the program's 18th player to reach 1000 career points as the Chargers handled Castleton 76-45 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Thursday evening.

Donato notched points 999 and 1000 at the 6:06 mark in the second half with a pair of free throws. He finished with a game best 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Senior Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) was the only player in the game with double digit rebounds, finishing with 12. Senior Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) added 12 points, while sophomore Nolan Bird (Clarksburg, Mass.) chipped in 11 off the bench. In his first collegiate start, freshman Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Castleton was led by senior Joshua Horton (Argyle, N.Y.). He was the lone Spartan in double figures with 13 in 14 minutes off the bench. Sophomore Tondi Mushandu (Zimbabwe) nearly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer held a 25-8 lead in the first ten minutes of action and never looked back. They used a 30-18 discrepancy on the boards, which led to a 14-0 advantage in second chance points, to head into the locker room at the half ahead 40-18.

The home team continued to apply pressure on the both ends of the court in the second half to increase its lead to 33 after a Hicks free throw with less than five minutes to play.

Colby-Sawyer turned 20 Castleton miscues into 23 points, while holding a 29-7 edge in second chance points. The Spartans bench was responsible for 36 of the teams 45 points.

The Chargers improve to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer travels to Green Mountain on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip. Castleton drops to 4-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The Spartans host New England College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
