Women's Basketball to Host UMaine-Farmington in NAC First Round

NEW LONDON, N.H. - February 23, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team earned the fourth seed in the 2014-15 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament and will host fifth seed UMaine-Farmington on Tuesday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the first round.

The Chargers (15-10, 12-6 NAC) enter the tournament on a three-game winning streak, while the Beavers (11-14, 10-8 NAC) will come to the Hogan Sports Center on a three-game skid. The two teams split a pair of regular season games with each team winning on the road. Colby-Sawyer came away with a 74-45 victory in Farmington on January 9, while the Beavers earned a 61-57 win in New London on January 31.

Tuesday's contest will be the first meeting between the two teams in the NAC tournament.

Colby-Sawyer is led by senior Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) who averages 12 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) is the second Charger to average double figures with 10.4 points per game and ranks in the top-30 in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (39.8%).

UMaine-Farmington is led by senior Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine) who averages 10 points per game. Junior Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine) is second in the conference with a 47.2 field goal percentage and ranks second on the team with 9.7 points per game.

Castleton claimed the top seed after compiling a 17-1 record in NAC play and will earn a bye in Tuesday's quarterfinal round. Second-seeded Husson (17-8 overall, 15-3 NAC) will also earn a bye in the quarterfinals.
New England College (19-6, 13-5) claimed the No. 3 seed, while Colby-Sawyer (15-10, 12-6), UMaine-Farmington (11-14, 10-8), and Maine Maritime (12-13, 9-9) earned the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 seeds respectively to complete the six-team tournament field.

The other first round matchup on Tuesday will feature No. 6 Maine Maritime at No. 3 New England College.

Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinal round which will be played on Friday, February 27. Top-seeded Castleton will host the winner of the Colby-Sawyer vs. UMaine-Farmington quarterfinal, while No. 2 Husson will take on the winner of the New England College vs. Maine Maritime quarterfinal contest.

Semifinal winners will square off for the conference championship on Saturday, February 28, at Castleton.

The NAC Champion will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
