Majong Scores 30 in 83-67 Men's Basketball Win over Regis

NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 17, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team received 30 points from senior Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) in Tuesday's 83-67 non-conference victory over Regis.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-0 and will continue its busy start to the season with a pair of games this weekend at the Rivier Tip-Off Tournament. Regis suffers its first loss of the season and drops to 2-1. The Pride will play at Wheaton on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The visitors raced out to a 13-3 lead in the first three and a half minutes capped by a pair of Jeff Tagger Jr. (Brockton, Mass.) layups. Regis held a comfortable lead for the next 10 minutes until the Chargers found their rhythm on offense. Trailing 34-23 with six minutes to play, Colby-Sawyer scored 10 straight points capped by a Nate Cook (Burlington, Conn.) tip-in to pull within one with just over two minutes to play. A three-point play by Tagger pushed the Pride lead to 37-33 before Majong hit two free throws and a trey at the buzzer to give the Chargers their first lead of the game.

Regis shot 53.3 percent from the floor in the first, but the Chargers made six three-pointers to take a 38-37 lead into halftime.

The Pride retook the lead coming out of the break and held a slim advantage for the first 5:43 of the second half before a Colby-Sawyer run. In the next three minutes of action, Colby-Sawyer went on an 11-1 spurt to take a 53-44 lead and never looked back. The Chargers locked down on defense holding the Pride to 36 percent from the floor in the second and did not allow them to get closer than eight points for the remaining ten minutes of play.

Majong scored 15 points in each half for the Chargers, doing most of his damage in the second frame at the free throw line going 10-for-10. Senior Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) recorded his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds. He added four blocks to move into sixth on the Chargers' all-time list. Senior Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) had 21 points.

The Pride were led by 17 points and eight rebounds from Tagger Jr. Junior forward Sam Jean-Gilles (Melrose, Mass.) went 7-for-12 for 16 points, while freshman Adem Afonja (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting.

Regis held a decisive advantage of points in the paint, 32-18, while the Chargers made six more three points and 14 more free throws than the Pride.
