Husson Defeats Men's Basketball, 79-68

BANGOR, ME – February 8, 2013 - In an early game affected by winter storm Nemo, the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) second-ranked Husson Eagles overcame the number three Colby-Sawyer Chargers in a men's basketball game on Friday evening.

With the win, Husson improves to 14-7 (11-3 NAC). Colby-Sawyer sits at 10-12 (10-5 NAC).

The game started off end-to-end, with both teams battling for over three minutes before putting points on the board. Colby-Sawyer found themselves with a 17-6 lead halfway through the first and held it through the rest of the half, leading 38-31 at the break. Wol Majong (Manchester, NH) led the Chargers through the first half scoring 17 points. Jacob Moore (Hampden, ME) had a big first half for Husson, contributing 11 points of his own.

In the second half, Husson opened up with a 10-2 run to give them their first lead of the game at 43-40 off a big three from Wes Murphy (Norwich, CT). The next eight minutes were all back-and-forth, as the lead changed hands two more times. The Eagles went up again at 62-60 when Eric Modica (Kittery, ME) scored off a beautiful pass from Aaron Willis (New York, NY) on a breakaway. The team never relinquished the lead again, finishing the game 79-68.

Majong was the big scorer for the night putting up a career-high 31 points for the Chargers. He shot 12-14 from the floor and was 7-9 from beyond the arc. Mike Dias (Carver, MA) added 16. Four Eagles scored in double figures on the night: Willis with 17, Moore with 13, Modica with 12, and Murphy with 10. Murphy and Modica both also snatched a game-high 6 rebounds in the victory.

The Eagles shot 48 percent from field goal range, 32 percent on threes, and 74 percent on field goals and were pretty even with the Chargers, who shot 49, 40, and 67 percent in the same categories.

Both teams are scheduled to be back in action in conference play tomorrow, weather permitting, with the Eagles hosting New England College for senior day at 3 PM, and the Chargers traveling to play Maine Maritime at 3 PM.
