NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 14, 2013 – Colby-Sawyer senior
Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) scored 28 points as the Chargers defeated Green Mountain, 82-27 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Thursday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 20-4 overall and remains perfect in NAC play at 17-0. The Chargers tied a program record with the 2005-06 team for longest win streak at 17 games. Green Mountain falls to 3-19 overall and 1-16 in the conference.
DeSanty scored 14 points in each half and was 12-17 from the floor. Sophomore
Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) scored all of her 12 points in the first half and added seven rebounds and a game best four steals. Senior
Sammi Lehr (Cohasset, Mass.) had eight points on 4-5 shooting.
Senior Chelsea Paul (Northville, N.Y.) led Green Mountain with 13 points and moved into third on the Eagles' all-time scoring list. Senior Jacque Caster (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) added five points and five rebounds.
The Chargers raced out to a 25-4 advantage over the first 10 minutes and held the Eagles without a field goal until Paul connected on a trey with 9:21 remaining. Colby-Sawyer ended the half with a 17-5 run and took a 42-12 lead into the half. Green Mountain was 2-22 from the floor in the first frame. Colby-Sawyer scored 18 points off 13 Eagle turnovers.
Colby-Sawyer went on a 26-1 run to begin the second half and pushed its advantage to 55. With 6:32 left to play, the Eagles connected on three three-pointers on consecutive possessions, but Colby-Sawyer made a pair of trey's to counter. The Chargers were 6-7 from the free throw line in the half and 14-15 for the game.
Colby-Sawyer, who boasts the 10th best field goal percentage defense in the nation, held the Eagles to 13.3% shooting from the floor. The Chargers outrebounded Green Mountain 49-23 and had a 44-2 edge in points in the paint.
Colby-Sawyer travels to Castleton on Saturday for a 3:00 pm tip in the regular season finale for both teams. Green Mountain will host New England College also on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
