Balanced Attack Leads Men's Basketball by Lyndon, 75-49

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 24, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team avenged an early season loss to Lyndon with a 75-49 victory over the Hornets in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Thursday evening. 
 
Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-9 overall and 7-3 in the NAC. The Hornets drop below .500 to 8-9 overall and are 7-4 in conference action.

Senior Corey Willis (Easton, Mass.) moved into second on Colby-Sawyer's career assists list, passing the 434 mark of Colin Bray '06. Willis had six for the game and now has 437 career dimes. 

Sophomore Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) and sophomore Zach Bean (Scarborough, Maine) each scored 17 points to lead Colby-Sawyer. Freshman Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) and junior Cody Addison (Washington, D.C.) each brought down eight rebounds. Junior Stephen Thorpe (Chicago, Ill.) added a game-high seven assists and three steals.

Senior Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) was the only Lyndon player to reach double-figures with 15 points. Junior George Carle (Central Falls, R.I.) scored seven points and pulled down a game best 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Devyn Baranauskas (Waterbury, Conn.) added eight points and seven boards.

Lyndon got off to a hot start and pushed its lead to nine five minutes into the game. After the score was tied 4-4, a layup by Carle capped a 9-0 run to give the visitors a 13-4 lead. Colby-Sawyer then went on a 21-5 run to take a 25-18 lead with seven minutes to play. The Chargers' biggest lead came after Dias scored the last basket of the first half. The Hornets took advantage of seven offensive boards in the first frame and turned them into 10 points. Dias led all players with 15 first half points.

Colby-Sawyer held a comfortable lead throughout the second half a finished the game with their biggest edge of 26 points, 75-49. The Chargers received 22 points from the bench in the second.

The Chargers held a 51-40 advantage on the glass, but was outscored 18-17 on second chance points.

Colby-Sawyer travels to Johnson on Saturday with a 1:00 pm tip. Lyndon hosts New England College also on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
