60-Point Second Half Lifts Men's Basketball to 88-61 Win at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – January 19, 2013 - Four different Chargers scored in double-figures leading the Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team past the New England College Pilgrims 88-61 Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Chargers improve to 6-9 overall and 6-3 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC)play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 1-14 on the season and 1-8 in NAC play.

The two teams would battle closely through an opening half that saw four ties and four lead changes.  The Pilgrims would see their largest lead of the game come at with just over two minutes remaining in the half up 31-22.  The Chargers would respond with two late three-pointers and allow just one final Pilgrim layup as NEC would take the slight 33-28 advantage heading into the intermission.

The Chargers would control the tempo throughout the second half of play as they would grab their first lead of the half at the 18:06 mark and never look back.  Colby-Sawyer would finish the half shooting an impressive 57% from the field, including draining ten second half three-pointers, en route to the 88-61 victory.

Colby-Sawyer's Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) led all Charger scorers finishing with a career-high18 points on 6-of-11 shooting.  Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) also reached a career-high with 16 points, while Paul Holland (England, United Kingdom) dropped in 12 points for the Chargers. Corey Willis (Easton, Mass.) dished out a game-high eight assists, while Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) was the other Charger in double-figures finishing with 10 points.

Leading the way for NEC was Abdirahman Mohamed (Biddeford, Maine) who led all scorers finishing with 20 points.  NEC's Javon Williams (New Britain, Conn.) was the only other Pilgrims in double-figures with 10 points, while Jonathan Byrnes (Bethel, Conn.) pulled down a game-high six rebounds to go along with nine points.

NEC returns to action Monday, Jan. 21 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Albany School of Pharmacy.  Colby-Sawyer will hit the court on Thursday, Jan. 24 when they host NAC for Lyndon State College.
