POULTNEY, Vt. - January 10, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team came away with a 66-63 overtime victory at Green Mountain, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Thursday evening.
The Chargers imrpove to 4-8 overall and 4-3 in the NAC. The Eagles fall to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
The first half saw multiple lead changes and eventually the Eagles would go into the half with a two point lead. In the second half the Eagles were called for several charges as they searched for the game changing basket. Colby-Sawyer capitalized on the turnovers and held on to go to overtime. In overtime the Chargers would outscore the Eagles by three to earn a hard fought road victory, 66 to 63.
Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore forward
Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) who finished the night with 14 points despite fouling out with little time remaining in regulation. Senior
Corey Willis (Easton, Mass.) managed the game well for the Chargers and hit big shot,s including two free throws at the end of overtime. Willis would finish the game with 12 points and four assists.
The Eagles had five players finish in double-digits on the evening with guard Carnelius Green (Oviedo, Fla.) leading the team with 14 points. Sophomore forward Elijah Wiggins (Pawtucket, R.I.) put in his best performance of the season totaling 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Chris Strong (Fort Worth, Texas) played well tallying 13 points, six rebounds, and a game-high five assists.
Colby-Sawyer hosts Castletonon Saturday at 3:00 pm.
