Taylor DeSanty Scores 27 in Chargers' 65-50 Win at Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine - December 7, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team picked up a 65-50 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road win at Thomas on Friday evening. 

Colby-Sawyer evens its overall record to 4-4 and improves to 3-0 in NAC play. In all four victories, the Chargers have held their opponents to under 30% shooting from the field. Thomas drops to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.  

Thomas got off to a slow start in the first half as the Chargers took the lead two minutes into the game and never turned back. Colby-Sawyer expanded their lead over the Terriers by as much as eighteen in the opening stanza, but Thomas was able to battle back to decrease the deficit to seven. The Chargers held the lead at half over the Terriers by a score of 37 to 25.

At half time, freshman Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) had a team-high seven points for the home squad as well as the team lead in rebounds with four. Fellow freshman Emilee Reynolds (Newport, Maine) added six points and three caroms for the Terriers. For the Chargers at half time, sophomore Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) had a game-high 12 points while junior Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass) added nine points and a team leading five boards.

The Chargers started the second half on an 18-6 run that included 16 points from senior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.), who finished with a game-high 27 points. Thomas fought back to decrease Colby-Sawyer's lead to 12 before eventually losing by a margin of 15. The Terriers were led by Pelletier's 16 points; with junior Elizabeth Goodall (Oakfield, Maine) adding ten to Thomas' total. Reynolds and senior Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, Maine) tied for the team-lead in rebounds with seven. The pair also tied for the game-high with Fruzzetti of Colby-Sawyer.

DeSanty shot 11-21 from the floor en route to the 27-point effort. Cahill was 8-9 shooting for 18 points. Fruzzetti added 12 points and seven boards. Senior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) contributed a game-high eight assists. 

The Terriers will look to stop their current three game losing streak when they face off with NAC foe New England College Pilgrims at home tomorrow with a start time of 1:00 pm. Colby-Sawyer travels to Maine-Farmington for a 1:00 pm tip tomorrow.
