Men's Basketball Cruises Past Thomas, 97-66 in First Ever Meeting

NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 9, 2011 – In the first ever meeting between the two teams, the Colby-Sawyer men's basketball cruised to a 97-66 victory over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday evening at the Hogan Sports Center.

The Chargers improve to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in NAC play. Thomas drops to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Colby-Sawyer senior Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) led all scorers with 20 points on 6-8 shooting, including a perfect 5-5 from beyond the arc. Senior James Tobin (Brookline, N.H.) added 15 points and six rebounds. Freshman Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) recorded 11 points and eight rebounds in 11 minutes. Freshman Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) was the fourth Charger to register double-figures with 13 points. Freshman Zach Bean (Scarborough, Maine) added six points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Sophomore Franklin Salvador (Somerville, Mass.) was the only Thomas player to reach double figures with 19 points on 7-15 shooting. Freshman Taurean Easter (Brunswick, Maine) had a solid effort off the bench with six points and six rebounds in just nine minutes. Sophomore Martin Cleveland (Portland, Maine) led the team with eight boards.

Thomas held an early six point advantage before the home team started clicking offensively. The Chargers, who led by as much as 15 in the frame, went 8-for-15 from beyond the arc in the first half and shot 54.3% from the floor. Although Thomas had three more turnovers than Colby-Sawyer, the Terriers held a 15-8 edge in points off turnovers.

The Chargers widened the gap in the second and held Thomas to 23.5% shooting from the floor. Colby-Sawyer would go up by 33 with four minutes to play and hold on for the 97-66 victory.

The Terriers struggled from the free throw line making just 12 of 30 attempts (40%).

Colby-Sawyer hosts the University of Maine-Farmington on Saturday at 1:00pm for its final game of the first semester. Thomas travels down Rte. 89 tomorrow for a 1:00pm game at New England College.
