Chargers Outlast Gordon, 80-72

NEW LONDON, N.H. - February 9, 2010 -
The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team defeated Gordon College, 80-72 on Tuesday night. The Chargers improve to 9-13 overall and 6-4 in conference play, which places them in a tie for fifth place in the TCCC standings. Gordon falls to 9-13 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

Gordon took an early five-point lead four minutes into the game, but relinquished it over the next eight minutes when Colby-Sawyer started a 12-2 run. Freshman Taylor DeSanty had eight first half points off the bench. The Chargers held a 20-12 advantage in the paint en route to a 31-27 halftime lead.  

The Chargers were led by senior Terri Duffy who had a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds and was 7-7 from the free throw line. Duffy's perfect shooting from the free throw line was part of a team 89.5% free throw percentage. The mark is the third highest single game percentage in Colby-Sawyer history.

Maggie Rossi  scored 15 points, had 4 assists and 3 steals, while freshman Sammi Lehr added 14 points and was 4-5 from the free throw line.

The Fighting Scots were led by senior Rebecca Carroll (Pleasent Valley, N.Y.) who had a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. She was 6-6 from the free throw line.  Kim Levinsky (West Caldwell, N.J.) added 17 points, Heather DeKleine (Wayland, MI) scored 16 points and Kayla Pacheco (Sutton, Mass.) added 13 points and nine rebounds in the loss for Gordon. 

Gordon shot 94.4% from the free throw line making 17 of 18 attempts. Colby-Sawyer increased their advantage in the paint in the second half and outscored the Fighting Scots 50-30 for the game.

The Chargers travel to the University of New England on Saturday to play the Nor'Easters for a 1:00 pm start. Gordon travels to Western New England, also on Saturday.
